Notes from the Tulip House

It’s Coming!

Spring Crocus

It’s finally starting to feel like Spring around here and what a relief!  Winter was far too long this year, (like 4.5 months instead of 3.)  Last week when I took this photo in my backyard, the grass was still yellow and dead looking and the trees were still without buds or leaves, but the air was almost warm and these sweet little flowers were coming up in my beds.   I don’t know about you but Spring gets me going.  The anticipation of warmth and green and the end of the blah winter days is energizing.  I’ve been doing a bunch of spring cleaning, I’ve enrolled in a Yoga/Pilates class, and I’m planning this years container vegetable garden!   I’m also working, working, working, on new pieces of jewelry.  I plan to update you on that later this week!

Easter Bug

Just for fun, here’s a look back at little Bug last year on Easter…  (I can’t believe how green our yard was last Spring!)

This is where we went on St. Patrick’s Day weekend.  It was a nice reprieve from a cold, gray, not Spring like, day.  The Conservatory is a wonderful old glass building in one of Chicago’s large city parks.  It is considered one of the city’s hidden gems.  It is a bit off the beaten path , but it’s free admission and free parking!

For us it is only a short 5 minute drive, and bonus, it has a children’s garden with a fun digging/planting play pit that a certain little boy loves.  I’m sure we will be visiting again soon.  If you’re in Chicago and you have little ones, it’s a great place to spend an afternoon.  Be sure to check out their website for a list of their workshops, events, and hours.  http://www.garfieldconservatory.org/
